Welcome Remarks - The latest PIMFA updates on the key work undertaken in 2025, and what we are expecting in 2026
It has been a busy year for the PIMFA team and our members, with the Financial Crime Committee and other groups working hard to ensure a safer sector for firms and their clients.
In the welcome remarks we will summarise the work done, key learnings, and look ahead to what we can expect in 2026.
Keynote 1 - Digital ID, and whether government plans will be beneficial to financial crime prevention
The government’s digital ID plans have been widely publicised and much commented on for a range of reasons, but a key consideration for them is on AML and financial crime prevention.
Our opening keynote will discuss the government’s plans, and how financial crime is a consideration within their thinking.
Keynote 2 - The intersection of strategic initiatives, including Economic Crime Plan 2
The Home Office is busy implementing a number of strategic initiatives, including Economic Crime Plan 2, the Fraud Strategy, the AMLAR Programme, and the Data Strategy. This session will summarise progress on ECP2, and how these programmes of work interlink to create a safer working environment for UK businesses and their clients.
Keynote 3 - The Regulator’s priorities for 2026, and updates from the FCA strategic five-year plan on fighting financial crime
The FCA’s five year strategy will be one year in as we approach the conference, and the regulator will be joining us to discuss progress on their key objective within the strategy of ‘fighting financial crime’, as well as summarising their priorities for the sector and its firms in 2026.

Presentation - Geopolitical risk, and managing the macro impact of an unstable world, including sanctions
The geopolitical landscape is in a state of flux today, with war, populism and changing behaviours creating a complicated landscape for firms to operate in, and particularly to defend against and combat borderless financial crime.
This session will summarise the situation, and what PIMFA firms need to know to stay safe in a constantly changing environment.
Presentation - A legal and regulatory update on the latest macro factors affecting the sector
Few firms have a better understanding of regulatory change than law firms, and in this session, the event’s legal partner will review the current landscape from their perspective and provide PIMFA firms with an update on changing legal trends and regulatory evolution.
Panel - Member financial crime teams – what are the key issues you are facing right now?
PIMFA members financial crime teams are at the heart of the work we do, and in this session we are focussing on the MLROs and other functionaries that fight everyday for a safer sector.
Panellists will discuss the latest trends from their perspective, as well as what is keeping them up at night, for a candid conversation about life in these roles.
Networking Lunch
Presentation - The latest cyber threats affecting firms, and what they can do to protect themselves and their clients
Cybercrime is the bane of the modern era, with threats being omnipresent and a borderless chimera to combat.
In this session, law enforcement will share a candid update on trends they are seeing and offer advice on what firms can do to keep themselves and their clients safe.
Panel - Criminals vs Compliance using AI, and the arms race between perpetration and prevention
The AI boom of the last couple of years has seen both hype and true technological change abound in equal measure.
In financial crime, this has led to evolution on both sides of the fence, with technology providers racing to combat the rise of sophisticated new threat vectors, including deepfakes, that firms need to contend with.
This panel will reflect on both, and where we think the balance currently lies between help and harm.
Presentation - Section 166s and how to prepare for them
Financial crime concerns, including AML and CTF, can be cause for the FCA to engage in a 166 review.
This session will view how to avoid any financial crime framework deficiencies, and ensure that your operations meet the expectations of the regulator when it comes to stability and safety.

For our closing speech, we have invited a unique guest to end the day on a special note, discussing the big picture of financial fraud, and using their unique position to commentate on how it is evolving, and where it may go next in this rapidly evolving geopolitical and technological landscape.
Summary & Closing Remarks – What is next?
As we reach the end of the day, we will summarise the key points covered, and what the key issues are for PIMFA to focus on in 2026, setting the table for the usual lively debate during the networking drinks that follow.
