Challenges for Leaders in Regulated Businesses

Leaders in regulated businesses face unique challenges and dilemmas:

  • The need to balance strategic growth and profitability with fair customer treatment and long term sustainability
  • Building relationships with regulators, stakeholders and investors
  • Coping with complexity, transparency and increasing scrutiny and regulation
  • Driving change and innovation while maintaining organisational stability and consistency of service to customers.
  • Developing a culture of accountability while encouraging empowerment, agility and teamwork.

Leading regulated businesses is difficult and requires a special kind of leader with the personal, organisational and commercial expertise to cope with operating under the regulatory spotlight.

In the UK, the FCA and PRA have introduced their new personal accountability regime for Senior Managers, which is being launched across PIMFA member firms and places an increased focus on the capability and performance of senior management and leaders.

This unique leadership masterclass, a first of its kind in the UK, stems from research into what differentiates successful leaders in regulated businesses. Designed in partnership with Ashridge Hult Business School, specialists in international leadership development, it will use a blend of face-to-face and virtual learning using case studies, visiting speakers and simulations to help develop the insights, skills and mind-sets needed to lead in in a regulated environment.
